Epson's CW-C6500 is a great color label printer with 1200 dpi print quality, and it is very affordable. The Afinia L701 is also an incredible color label printer. It has a higher print quality than the CW-C6500 at 1600 dpi, and it is slightly more expensive. Does the 400 dpi print quality difference really matter?
The answer is: it depends on your business label printing needs in Canada. If you are printing labels for products that will be handled frequently or exposed to harsh conditions, the pigment inks of the Epson CW-C6500 will hold up better than the Afinia L701's dye-based inks. The Epson's pigment inks are also more resistant to fading from sunlight exposure. On the other hand, if you need to print labels with small text or intricate graphics, or need to print consumer-facing product labels, the higher print quality of the Afinia L701 will be worth the extra investment.
Pigment inks may have the advantage when it comes to durability, but when it comes to print quality, dye-based inks are hard to beat. The Afinia L701's 1600 dpi print head produces stunning photo-quality prints with bright, vibrant colors, making it the ideal choice for printing consumer-facing product labels like food and beverage labels, coffee and tea labels, and luxury product labels.
Epson's CW-C6500 is an outstanding pigment-based color label printer, but for the best print quality, the Afinia L701 is the clear winner.

A Note about Print Speed
While we're on the topic of print quality, it's important to mention that the Afinia L701 is much faster printer than the Epson CW-C6500. When printing an identical 8-inch-wide label at each printer's highest print setting (1600 dpi on the Afinia and 1200 dpi on the Epson), the Afinia L701 is about 30 times faster! It prints at 6 inches per second whereas the Epson CW-C6500 prints at a glacial 0.20 inches per second.
So, if you need to print large quantities of photo-quality labels quickly, the Afinia L701 is the obvious choice for businesses of any size. On the other hand, if you need to print fewer labels and durability is more important to you than print quality or speed, the Epson CW-C6500 is a great option, especially for home-based businesses.
