Epson WorkForce Pro Case Study: Skagit Valley Food Co-op

Epson WorkForce Pro Case Study: Skagit Valley Food Co-op

Posted by BK on 10th Sep 2019

Mid-sized businesses typically print numerous documents every day — some ordinary business documents and other more specialized documents requiring colour graphics and text such as catalogs, flyers, menus, and signage. These businesses generally outgrow desktop printers and require a more robust printing solution.

Washington state’s Skagit Valley Food Co-op is a mid-sized, non-profit natural food store that fits this profile. The co-op runs a grocery store, coffee shop, deli, cafe, and bar, all of which require signage, sales signs, flyers, menus, and general office documents like memos, schedules, invoices, and reports.

Like many businesses and non-profits, printing costs was a real concern for the co-op. The co-op’s IT manager, George Rodgers-Clark received an Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 all-in-one colour office printer through an Epson research program called SpiceWorks Try & Tell. As part of this research panel, Rodgers-Clark was determined to put the printer to the test over a one-month period.

As such, the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 was placed in an area where it would get a lot of use, the main office. Here, staff used the printer to print everything from traditional reports with black text to full colour, customer-facing signs and displays.

There wasn’t a lot of room to spare in the main office for a large printer. Fortunately, the compact Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 printer fit perfectly in the narrow space allotted — even with its two extra paper trays.

According to Rodgers-Clark, the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 was easy to set up and install, and that the hardest part was removing the printer from its box. He simply plugged it in, turned it on, and followed a few prompts on its touchscreen display to connect it to the network and install the drivers.

In addition to its compact size, the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 colour business inkjet printer comes on wheels so it can easily be wheeled to another location. In fact, this is what they did when another printer went to the shop for maintenance. The staff in the original location wanted to know what Rodgers-Clark did with their printer.

After all, they had been working with the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 for several weeks, putting it through a series of real-world tests — and it passed with flying colours! Rodgers-Clark rated the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 a “five out of five” for overall performance and said that it was better than other multifunction printers with great print quality and ease of use.

Rodgers-Clark also appreciated the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 business inkjet printer’s:

-Durability — Pages come out with ease and don’t jam which is important in a business that supports 50+ users as the co-op does

-Print speed — “It just cranks out the pages,” Rodgers-Clark said

-Print quality — Colour print quality across a variety of paper types and sizes compares favourably to other printers including colour laser printers

Best of all, the co-op’s staff loved using the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 business inkjet printer and Rodgers-Clark has become an Epson fan.

“The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-8590 definitely exceeded my expectations and has made my job easier,” he said. “The quality is better than other inkjet printers—equal to a laser printer. After this experience, I’m an Epson fan.”
