The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-C570 and the HP PageWide Pro 477dw are both colour all-in-one inkjet printers designed for the office. The HP is faster and several hundred dollars more expensive than the Epson WF-C5790, but is the speed difference really worth the added expense? Let’s take a look at the Epson WF-C5790 versus the HP PageWide Pro 477dw.
Epson WF-C5790 @ $389 CAD
The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-C5790 is powered by Epson’s innovative PrecisionCore Heat-Free Technology, which delivers precise, high resolution printouts. The Epson WF-C5790 takes two approaches to storing ink, both of which bring the ink cost way down. Choose between either a refillable “supertank” printer that includes two years of ink or the Replaceable Ink Pack System version that uses replaceable high capacity ink packs that can yield up to 10,000 ISO pages.
With a print resolution of up to 4800 dpi and Epson DuraBrite Ultra pigment inks, the Epson WF-C5790 has outstanding print quality and print longevity. This printer is recommended for offices that print up to 2,500 pages per month.
The Epson WF-C5790 is an all-in-one colour printer that prints, scans, copies, and faxes. You can print from computers over the network, Wi-Fi, or the cloud as well as mobile devices via Wi-Fi or the cloud. The Epson WF-C5790 is open platform ready and supports PCL and PostScript.
With a fast first page out speed (thanks to virtually no warmup time) and an ISO print speed of up to 24 pages per minute, the Epson WF-C5790 is a fast business inkjet printer. Because it does not require heat, the Energy Star qualified Epson WF-C5790 also has low energy costs.
HP PageWide Pro 477dw @ $800 CAD
The HP PageWide Pro 477dw is a much larger unit than the Epson WF-C5790, taking up more desk space. It too is a printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine all in one unit. The HP PageWide Pro 477dw is based on HP PageWide Technology and uses pigment inks. The page wide print head offers fast print speeds (up to 40 pages per minute in normal mode).
The HP PageWide Pro 477dw uses traditional ink cartridges with high yield ink cartridges available (up to 10,000 ISO pages for black and 7,000 for CMY composite). The Epson WF-C5790 has a print resolution of up to 2,400 dpi and is recommended for offices that print between 750 and 4,500 pages per month.
Like the Epson WF-C5790, the HP PageWide Pro 477dw features network, mobile, and cloud-based printing along with advanced security features to help ensure the confidentiality of your printed documents, copies, and faxes.
Because the HP PageWide Pro 477dw is a thermal inkjet printer, it does need to warmup before printing begins. Its first page out speed is between 6.5 (black) and 7 seconds (colour). This warmup period can impact its print speed compared to the Epson WF-C5790 which does not need to warmup as you’ll see in the video below. For typical print jobs of four pages or less, the Epson WF-C5790 at 24 pages per minute is just as fast as the HP PageWide Pro 477dw at 40 pages per minute.
