A Comparison of Ink Types in the Afinia L701 and Epson ColorWorks C6500 Gloss Colour Label Printers

A Comparison of Ink Types in the Afinia L701 and Epson ColorWorks C6500 Gloss Colour Label Printers

Posted by BK on 13th Apr 2022

The Afinia L701 and Epson CW-C6500 are both excellent colour label printers for printing high-quality, full colour labels in Canada. But what are the differences between these two machines? One of the most significant distinctions is the type of ink they use.

Dye-based inks are the most commonly used type of ink in inkjet printers. These inks are water-based and contain dyes that dissolve in the liquid. The Afinia L701 colour label printer uses dye-based inks. Dye-based inks produce brighter colours.than pigment inks.

Pigment-based inks are another type of ink that can be used in inkjet printers. These inks are made of tiny pigment particles that are suspended in a liquid. Pigment-based inks are more fade- and water-resistant than dye-based inks. The Epson ColorWorks C6500 color label printer uses pigment-based inks.

The "gloss" version of the C6500 uses pigment inks that are formulated for use with glossy label stock. As such, both the Afinia L701 and Epson ColorWorks C6500 gloss colour label printers can be used to print attractive colour product labels.

Printhead Differences

Another ink difference between the Afinia L701 and Epson ColorWorks C6500 gloss colour label printers is the type of printhead they use. The Afinia L701 uses a Memjet stationary printhead while the CW-C6500 uses a serial printhead that must move back-and-forth across the label to print.

The Memjet printhead in the Afinia L701 is larger, has more nozzles, and can print much faster than the serial printhead in the CW-C6500. How much faster? 6 to 8 inches per second on the L701 versus just 0.20 inches per second on the CW-C6500 for an 8-inch-wide label at the highest quality mode. Plus, the highest quality setting for the Afinia L701 is 1600 dpi versus just 1200 dpi on the Epson CW-C6500.

While both printers have their benefits, it’s clear that the Afinia L701 has some big advantages when it comes to ink type, printhead technology, print quality, and performance.
